Reed Dance - preparations

young potential queens

It was a long indeterminate wait for the actual ceremony to start - things were definately running on Swazi time. This young boy kept himself and us occupied with a spinning top, as we sat in the stand.

Another good occupation was people-watching, given such a diverse and colourful audience. There were quite a few tourists - I was surprised by the number of Chinese, for example. However, on the whole the Reed Dance is still mainly done for and by local Swazis.
