After the horrors of internment, redress took decades of organisation and persistence

this process took painful and creative forms

the Civil Rights movements of the 1960s inspired Japanese American demands for redress

this often involved organising with other communities

it also involved dealing with difficult issues from the war

in some cases, redress came too late for the immediate victims

George Bush finally issued an official apology in 1991

there are, of course, many such injustices in US history - lessons still unlearnt

redress is never just about the past, but about moving forwards together

the Japanese American community is an integral and thriving element of the USA

I was deeply impressed and moved by this whole museum - sadly very timely again
