Tilbury under clear skies
Because of the unpronouncable volcano (have you noticed newsreaders never even attempt the name?)
I enjoyed an extra week in England, and went to see the clear skies for myself

the silence and absence of condensation trails really was noticeable

I love the way this old bunker creeps across the landscape - very Howl's Moving Castle

Sachin and I had just watched a beautiful and thoughtful Natural World episode,
with Robert Macfarlane searching for wild spaces in the industrial Essex landscape

this tranquil place once defended London from the threat of French ironclads

I'd set out for a place I didn't know on the map - and it proved a nice discovery
